Over the past decade, we’ve seen many competitors come and go. Companies like Space Savers, Swiss Park, Boomerang, and CityLift entered the market with big promises—but ultimately exited the business, leaving customers without support and systems without parts or service. In fact, Klaus has been called in to replace Chinese-made lifts from some of these defunct brands at locations in San Francisco due to ongoing safety, reliability, and operational concerns.
As an example, when CityLift ceased operations, they left multiple in-progress projects unfinished, even after collecting payment for the systems. All automated parking systems are powered by electric motors. Modern motors are very reliable, but the motion transfer method used in the system is of key importance. "Motion transfer" refers to how the physical movement from the electric motors is transferred to the parking platforms themselves. There are basically two methods:

While hydraulic motion isn’t a new technology, it's certainly more modern than chain-and-sprocket mechanisms, which date back to the earliest industrial machinery.
Klaus has a wide product range, and while we do use both of these methods, virtually all Klaus systems use hydraulics as the primary method of motion transfer, because it provides far greater reliability and safety at no additional cost.
With safety and reliability as primary concerns, hydraulic systems simply can’t be beat. Hydraulic motors are quiet and reliable. Platforms are guided by rails, and supported by hydraulic cylinders with redundant automatic secondary safety locks.
Hydraulic systems do require a higher level of engineering design expertise, this advanced engineering translates directly into superior reliability. Klaus Systems achieve a system-wide Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of approximately 10,170 hours, compared to just 370 hours for traditional Chain & Sprocket Systems. The difference is clear:
The total system MTBF is calculated based on how many individual components can fail. Since any single failure stops the entire system, the more failure points there are, the lower the system-wide MTBF.
